Cuban artist and a figurative painter. He studied in Art School for Painting and Drawing in Isla de Pinos, at Cuba Art School of University of Havanna and Academy of Art San Alejandro in Havana. During his studies in University of Havana he developed his own artistic style presenting landscapes of Cuba and the streets of Havana. This is when he was noticed by a German journalist who later recommended him for a scholarship in Art Academy in Düsseldorf. Pozo studied in classes of was prof. K. Klapheck.
The artworks of Juan Pozo are part of such renowned international art collections as Ella Fontanals Cisneros, Pérez Art Museum Miami (PAMM), Falckenberg, Ludwig, Nachmann and Sean Penn and many more. In 2022 Juan Miguel Pozo was exhibited in documenta fifteen in Kassel within the Instar project at the invitation of the artist collective ruangrupa.
Pozo investigates contemporary urban life. Havana, Berlin, where he lives now, are the main scenarios of his paintings. Through a visual process he mixes political propaganda with totalitarian graphics. His style is a mixture of Neo pop art, New Leipsig School and his Cuban nature. Other stylistic elements that flow into his work are small locations that he himself describes as forgotten memories , or insects and ruined buildings.
He lives and works in Berlin.
